The Body Shop sale

Hello! Before I get into the details for this one, I'd just like to say a little word or two about it. I thought long and hard about putting up info about The Body Shop sale as I know they have L'Oreal as a parent company. I've come to the conclusion that I should still put up the information and then people can decide for themselves whether to shop there. They do have vegan items and they as a company do not test on animals. Anyway, if you don't like them, fair enough, I totally get it. If you do, please read below! x

The Body Shop have a lovely sale going on, up to 50% off a limited number of items, with free delivery online if you spend over £20. However the sale is also in store. This is until 9am 11th April.

Here is one of the most recent lists of vegan products I could find online from them: http://www.alienontoast.co.uk/2016/11/the-body-shop-vegan-product-list.html however they are beginning to label new products online (example below):

Hope you find what you're looking for in the sale! As always, please check you're happy with the price before you buy. :-)

Nakd and Trek offer

Hello! Nakd and trek have turned 13 so to celebrate, they are running an offer of 1/3 off everything! This is especially good as it included their mixed boxes, plus they have free P and P.

This is available until the 19th March, however when I just had a quick look things are selling out a little. Just go here: www.naturalbalancefoods.co.uk

They don't just sell bars and nibbles, but also flavoured raisins (my favourite).

Woohoo!

Holland and Barrett sale!

Hello! Holland and Barrett are currently doing their (quite frequent) buy one get one half price offers, with a lot of vegan products being part of it. It's on for the rest of the week!

As well as including products such as Ten Acre crisps, Follow Your Heart Vegan Egg, their own brand 'Veg Out' pastries (not all vegan! May sound silly, but the scotch egg has an actual egg in it. Since vegan eggs are appearing I just wanted to make that clear) and Nooch (nutritional yeast), their Easter range is also included. Yaaaay!

Just for examples. It's worth noting, Morrison's are currently selling Moo Free eggs at 3 for £10.00, however if you don't want 3, this may be a better option in the long run as you ultimately spend less. Holland and Barrett are also generally more expensive so a quick price check elsewhere on google wouldn't hurt before buying them. However they have a great range include Cocoa Libre, Plamil and Booja Booja (definitely a good one for a deal!). This deal is available in store and online.

H&B also have a 'better than half price' deal happening, as well as £5 off £30 and £10 off £60, which I believe can work along side the buy one get one half price offer. Woohoo! As always, please check you're happy with the prices before you buy!

Restaurant voucher roundup

Hello! Zizzi and Ask have now released their Spring menus, each with new vegan products on. Ask now do vegan cheese on their pizza (ooohhh yeeeeaahh!) and Zizzi have released a sticky chocolate and praline tort (pudding!!). So based on this, here's some useful vouchers for these places and more.

First off, if you shop at Tesco, have a look back at this post: http://theveganmagpieuk.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/clubcard-vouchers.html

If you don't, or don't want to use your Tesco vouchers as a boost, here are others available at the moment. You can find them on the official restaurant websites. Tesco vouchers cannot be used in conjunction with the offers below.

Zizzi

This is 25% off all food Sunday to Thursday until 23rd March (it suggests this date can change depending on location) as well as 3 courses for £15.95 this weekend (Ts and Cs says vegan options are available, just ask). Yum yum yum!

Ask

One for in the restaurant and one for take out. Win win! Both work Sunday to Friday until 24th March. It suggests to check your location again, however you have to provide this in order to receive your voucher.

Bella Italia

Valid until 29th/31st March respectively.

These don't appear to have expiry dates, please check before you go!

Las Iguanas

Las Iguanas appear to have "Tortilla Tuesday" as well as student discount of 25% off Sunday to Thursday for up to 6 people. Woohoo!

Size differences

Hello! When I was looking through all the supermarket offers, it occurred to me that some things looked cheaper but may not be... So I thought I'd write something as a way of saving money! This may seem obvious, but if it helps one person then I'm a happy magpie.

Often things can go on offer (say with £1 off), making it look really appealing, but right next to it could be a larger version of it which actually works out cheaper when comparing the prices per volume.

Here's an example, Asda currently have 340g Whole Earth peanut butter on offer/rollback for £2.00...

However, they also sell a 1kg pack of the exact same peanut butter for £5.85

This actually works out cheaper per 100g (in this instance by 0.3p admittedly, but often it can be more). This is just to show how offers may not be as good as they seem!

Things to consider are:

  • Do you need the larger quantity?? Or overall due to your usage will you save by buying the more expensive per 100g.
  • Can you eat/use the larger quantity before it goes off?
Usually the price per 100g/kg are shown on the tags, so you can just do a quick check before you pick your size!

Weekly supermarket roundup! 13/03/2017

Hello! Here's this weeks round up. As always, please check online or in store at the price before you buy.

Sorry, I can't fit in Ocado. There's too much! I'll aim to add them from next week :-)

Ocado

Hello! I wanted to dedicate a little (we'll see about that!) blog post to Ocado as I'm not sure everyone will know how good they are for vegans.

Ocado are one of the easier places to have full access to Frys range, including their new ice creams. As well as this, they sell some of the Vbites range, Booja Booja ice creams, Pudology (including the new big tubs), The Coconut Collaborative products...the list of things they sell is massive!

What's more, there is usually a voucher somewhere online which can be used to get your shopping for cheaper, particularly for new customers (such as on hotukdeals and other voucher sites) plus they'll send you emails with great money off coupons.

A word of warning, you may have to pay delivery (if your voucher doesn't provide this free) and vouchers tend to have a minimum spend. However if you want to try new products or stock up on your favourites, it is usually easy enough to meet the criteria. Also it's worth noting that they don't deliver everywhere.

One of my favourite offers from Ocado is when they do Fry's product for half price (once or twice a year it seems). This, combined with vouchers, makes for massive savings!

To see the full vegan range, just go here: https://www.ocado.com/webshop/getSearchProducts.do?clearTabs=yes&isFreshSearch=true&chosenSuggestionPosition=0&entry=frys+vegan

I hope to add Ocado to my weekly roundup, however they're generally pretty good with offers so it might be too much for me to add at this time. We'll see by the end of tonight!

EDIT: Sorry, they won't be added tonight. Next week I'll try my best! Honestly, they have too much on offer!

Festivals (including Vegfest Brighton)

Hello! It's coming up to one of the bigger vegan festivals of the year, Vegfest Brighton! Festivals are a great place to stock up on your favourites at cheaper prices and Vegfest tend to put a lot (not all!) of the offers in their programme. This is available here: https://issuu.com/vegfestuk/docs/brig2017-programme

Some notable stalls providing offers are Besos De Oro, Butcherless (also known as Sgaia Mheats), Ethicoco, The Coconut Collaborative and Vegusto.

Festivals not only provide offers but give people the chance to buy things you can only easily get online, meaning you save money from the deals but also from not paying postage. So if you like Vegusto sausages but dislike postage, buy 100 packs here! (Maybe not that many...).

A few of my festival tips are:

  • Bring backpacks, even small suitcases depending on what you want to buy. Things get heavy, especially milks/jars of mayo/too many sausages, so it's much better to pack it into a back pack of wheelable suitcase. If you choose a suitcase, it's a good idea to buy the heavy things first, then put the cases away into the cloakroom and enjoy your day bag free!
  • Make a list of what you want before you go. Obviously you'll want to see every stall (and sample every type of chocolate going), but by making a list you can make sure you get the lovely items you want easier.
  • Check the online prices of things you want before you go. Usually everything is cheaper at a festival, but you may find there is no price difference or may even be a little more expensive. So by having an idea in your head of what's good value, you can spend more sensibly.
  • Try and get there early! I always aim to get there for when the festivals open so that I can walk round the stalls a little easier before it gets too busy (which is also a little nicer for everyone if you do bring a suitcase).
  • Obviously, enjoy every bit! See something you like the look of. Try it! Want to eat (another) box of mac and cheese, go for it! The great thing about vegan festivals is that you can try everything (as a vegan, sorry if you have allergies), so have fun with it!
My weekly supermarket round up will be up by the end of the day :-)
